Spotify is once again offering a free Google Nest Mini to subscribers of its premium services in the UK and Canada. The offer began late last month and continues through the rest of this month. It’s available to current Spotify premium subscribers and new signups.
That’s right. You can get a free smart speaker just for being that person who pays for Spotify.
Naturally, there are a few caveats: The offer is only available in the UK and Canada for now, and it’s while supplies last. If you already received a free Google device when Spotify offered this deal last year, you don’t qualify for another one. Also, in order to take advantage of the offer, you have to link your Spotify account with a Google Assistant. I mean, you didn’t think you were going to get off without a little data sharing, did you?
Other than that, it sounds like a pretty good deal. All you have to do is agree to the terms and you’ll be using your free Google Nest Mini faster than you can say “cocaine noodles.” Here’s how it works:
For current premium subscribers
Google is currently giving away free Nest Mini smart speakers to select YouTube and Google Play subscribers. The Google Nest Mini was formerly known as Google Home Mini and can be a good way to instantly add to (or help create) a smart home setup. The Google Nest Mini is Google’s take on a smart speaker.

The promotion offers a Google Home Mini to Spotify users with a Premium for Family account, and is available until 14 May.
Just go to the Canada or UK plans page and click the link for current subscribers. You’ll be given a special code that can be used in the Google Store. The codes are good until October 31.

- If you’re a Spotify Premium subscriber in Canada, you can get a free Google Nest Mini right now. Through September 30, 2020, Spotify Premium subscribers in Canada are eligible to redeem a free.
For new premium subscribers
Sign up for one of Spotify’s paid tiers. (It offers four, starting at $5 a month for students.) Then, you’ll be given one promotional code for the Google Store. You can find all the details on Spotify’s website in Canada or the U.K.

Perhaps you recently heard that Spotify Premium users are now eligible to receive a free Google Home Mini. The promo has Spotify Premium customers in Canada super excited.. well, most Spotify Premium customers.
There are a select few that are a little less than stoked about the promo, as they've been thoroughly left out. People who are currently subscribed to a Premium for Family account have not been included in the promo, meaning they are not privy to a free Google Home Mini.
The outrage is understandable when you realize that people on the Family plan actually pay $5 more than regular Premium users.

To add insult to injury, it seems that Spotify Premium users in other countries are eligible to claim the free Google Home Mini if they are on the family plan. It's only Canadian families that are still left out of the deal.
Understandably, Canadian families are confused and feeling let down that they aren't able to take advantage of this sweet free gift.

So far, Spotify Canada has yet to respond to questioning customers, though I have a good feeling they will have to honour this deal to their Family Plan customers eventually.
Especially if they are already doing so for those customers in other countries.
